Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass, it is formed by quickly cooling lava. It has been known since Roman times and was first found in Ethiopia by the Roman explorer Pliny the Elder. It was also loved by the Mayan and Aztec civilisations since 100 B.C. It is normal deep black but can be blackish green. Black Obsidian is a very powerful and creative stone. It increases self-control.  Releases imbalances and negative energies.  Black Obsidian is protective and provides support during change.  It repels negativity and disperses unloving thoughts. Many crystals are packed together at the molecular level in hexagons. This means they naturally form into hexagonal shapes just as in the basalt columns of the Giant’s Causeway Ireland.
