Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass, it is formed by quickly cooling lava. It has been known since Roman times and was first found in Ethiopia by the Roman explorer Pliny the Elder. It was also loved by the Mayan and Aztec civilisation since 100 B.C. Normally deep black but can blackish green. When cristobalite inclusions form in the obsidian it forms white patterns that look like snowflakes. Obsidian is truth-enhancing. A strongly protective stone, it forms a shield against negativity.
